A Day at the Zoo

Not that a political rally isn’t a zoo, but I decided to spend my birthday at a real zoo. Even in Calgary the outdoor areas stay open most of the year. Which is good for fellas like this:

The thing I really like about this image is that it was taken at 1/100 sec at ISO 1250 with my new Pentax K20D. The Shake Reduction means that this shot is possible handheld; and the new sensor means that even at ISO 1250 noise isn’t an issue. And the weather sealing means that I didn’t care that it was -1C and snowing.

The thing I really dislike about this image is that at f/8, more of the bird should be in focus… I should have accounted for the fact that his face is quite flat, and should have picked a better focus point.
